There are only 300 jobs on offer

A new Ikea store is due to open in Jerez next spring, whose area of 36,000 square metres, La Voz de Cádiz reports, will make it the Swedish multi-national’s largest store in Andalucía. Their two other stores are in Sevilla and Málaga, which opened in 2004 and 2007 respectively.

Jerez is a city which has been suffering rising unemployment, where more than 27,000 people are registered as out of work. El País gives the unemployment rate in the city as 27% of the population.
The application period for the 300 jobs on offer at Ikea’s new store closed on Saturday and, not surprisingly, the response has been massive: no fewer 50,074 people. It equates to 166 candidates applying for each of the positions available.

It’s understood the company will start recruiting next month ahead of their inauguration in March next year.
