Salobrena: The Costas Best Kept Secret

Salobrena is one of the best kept secrets of Andalucía and the perfect holiday destination for tourists who are looking for some fun as well as tranquility. Although it doesn’t have quite glamour of the Caribbean’s but it does impress with its white sandy and rocky beaches, sub-tropical fruits and one can’t really miss the over-whelming Sierra Chaparral mountain range. It is a historical town situated in the Costa Tropical region of Spain and boasts of the whitewashed homes and a single Moorish Castle.

Of the popular places in Salobrena, the most famous is the El Castillo Arabe Salobrena. It was built in the 10th century Nasrid Dynasty by the Arabs although the Christians added some more fortifications to it in the 15th century. Some of the other places of interest in this part of Costa Tropical include the ski resort of Sierra Nevada, which is at a distance of around 75 minutes from here.

    Beaches

The beaches of Salobrena are quite different from the other beaches in Spain. There is a grey shingle to the sand here and the beaches are divided into two parts by the Gran Penon (means big rock). The beaches provide a spectacular view of the ocean, mesmerizing sunset and a panoramic view that covers everything from the mighty mountains to the magnificent coastline. There is also an artificial reef that has been created a little away from the Gran Penon and it is home to a variety of marine life. There are several types of water sports for the more adventurous kinds

    Nightlife

The nightlife in this part of Spain is dominated by traditional music and live cultural events in the many bars and restaurants that sparkles up Salobrena at night.

    Weather

The weather in Salobrena is excellent as is in all parts of Costa Tropical. The average winter temperature hovers around 11c in winters and 26c in the summers. One of the best things is that in spite of its close location to the coastline, the humidity is quite low.
