Motril: The Shopping Capital of Costa Tropical

Motril is situated in Andalucía on the Costa Tropical. Considered as the biggest town in the costal region, Motril has a thriving fishing industry apart from a booming commercial and travel & tourism industry. It can be reached from the Malaga International Airport in 75 minutes and is also at a proximity to the popular Sierra Nevada ski range. There has been a steady influx of tourists in the last couple of years to Motril as most people make it their base for exploring other areas along the Andalucian coastline.

    Most famous for its shopping experience, Motril offers a hypermarket that is situated right on the outskirts of the town. This hypermarket is situated of the main N340 coast road and close to a DIY store. Apart from the hypermarket, there are several supermarkets, and an indoor municipal market where you can find everything from fresh vegetables to mean and fish. Due to the fishing port situated in this region of Costa Tropical, there is a natural abundance of different varieties of fish.

    Airport: Granada Airport, Malaga International Airport and Almeria Airport
    The main option is to hire a taxi or rent a private car. Normally tourists hire cars because the return cost of the taxi is more than hiring a car. There are no direct bus services from any of the airports to Motril. The closest airport is the Granada airport at a distance of 65km and is connected by the A44/N323A. The journey from Granada airport to Motril in Costa Tropical takes around an hour. The Malaga International airport, which is preferred by tourists because this airport is connected to international flights, is around 100km from Motril. The journey from the airport to Motril is around 1 hour and 20 minutes. The third airport is the Almeria and the airport offers a good selection of international flights like British Airways and Easyjet. The Almeria airport is around 113km from Motril and it takes around 1hour and 15 minutes to reach the city.

    Places to See
    There are many places to see in Motril and the hot favorites are the two beaches of Playa Poniente and Playa Granada. Both the beaches are clean and beautiful and have all the modern facilities. Apart from this, there are some sheltered coves, stunning cliff faces and rocky inlets close to the beach. There are non-nude and nudist beaches in Costa Tropical. The famous Alhambra Palace in Granada, Andalucia is just a 40-minute drive from here. The Sierra Nevada mountain range, which is a paradise for skiers, is also quite close and you can always drive down there. One of the most spectacular regions in Spain, the fringes of the Alpujarras is a short drive from Motril. The fringes of the Alpujarras are famous for the ancient villages that were built clinging to the mountains of the Sierra Nevada.

    Nightlife
    There are some excellent seafront restaurants that offer exotic sea food and to add to that is the lively nightlife that is dominated by Spanish traditional music. The most popular hang outs include the tapas bars where you can enjoy a free tapa with every drink unlike in other parts of Spain.

    The weather of Motril is excellent and gets around 2,800 hours of sunshine. The average annual temperature here is 28.90C.
