Gordon Ramsay’s Donkey Rescue

Our Volunteer rescue crew, on call 24 hours a day, attends rescues in all weathers and all hours, and with over 7,000 rescues under their belts, they thought they had seen it all, but the rescue of Gordon Ramsay’s donkey takes the biscuit, so let us explain

18 Months ago, we had our annual St Valentines day fund raiser at La Parra restaurant in Burrianna, and it was so bad, that Gordon Ramsay decided to use the restaurant in his programme Kitchen Nightmares, where we featured quite well, and Gordon being Gordon, he managed to mention the donkey sanctuary frequently  as well as filming there for use in the programme.

Gordon also decided to try to open the eyes of chef/owner Lawrence, and apart from taking him off to learn to  bullfight ( we kid you not, but they were small bulls) Gordon also donated a donkey to Lawrence as a continual reminder of his disgrace, but made sure it was strong enough for Lawrence not to eye it up for a barbecue or to join his trademark dish of prawns with chocolate sauce on his main menu. After several false starts and stops, Lawrence has decided to call it a day and return to the UK, (and we wish him well) but our rescue crew sprang into action to save the Gordon Ramsay Donkey, and it is now safe and well in the sanctuary, and as it does not seem to bother about eating (probably as a result of Lawrence’s cooking) we just wish a few more of our lot were as cheap to run, and it was rescue number 7,055

Where our 6,700 Euro a month expenditure goes

A basket of pups for less than a cup of coffee a day

31 Cents a day each, or 479 Euro a month to keep up to 50 places for abandoned pups, dogs, kittens and cats safe, happy and well, whilst they wait patiently for new loving homes, or in the case of these three, snoozing quietly and contently after a nice bath, plus room service four times a day and several hours or so playtime with our nice lovingvolunteers and visitors, oh and of course, some nice toys to play with in case they get bored when they wake up !

4 Euro a day each, or 600 Euro a month to house, feed and keep safe and happy, five baby donkeys who were rescued by us when they were destined for the fairground but found to be suffering from kidney and liver problems, so have to stay with us whilst being treated to see if they later can be re homed, something we always do with all healthy animals.

5 Euro a day each or 2,250 Euro a month for 15 donkeys and mules munching away and living happily in the sanctuary.

10 Euro a day. or 300 Euro a month provides a few loving but pain free months for terminally ill or permanent care horses, such as Twiggy, with a dignified end, surrounded by people who loved her, as against an agonising, slow, lingering and lonely death in a field through hunger and thirst. Twiggy was a 25 year old ex military breed mare, abandoned by a dealer near Motril when her usefulness was over.

93 Euro a day, or 2,800 Euro a month for vets bills and medicines costs and our free 24/7 rescue service and outreach project monitoring and helping up to 250 local animals.
