Lecrin: Fruit orchard

Lecrin was formed after the 1970’s and before that it was an area that consisted of six towns, which were Mondújar, Talará, Béznar, Acequias y Chite, and Murchas. After the district of Lecrin was formed, it was larger of the six towns Talará, which changed its name to Lecrin. It is situated exactly halway from the coast as well as from Granada and hence is considered one of the most fertile regions of Andalucia.

  • Lecrin

This Costa Tropical town has an old history and the first settlement was established in the 7th century BC. You will find historical evidence in the form of Roman spa but its agricultural capabilities were majorly used only by the Muslim domination after the 12th century. Citrus fruit was one of the major fruits cultivated here and today the valley grows lemons, pomegranates, avocado, olive, almond and oranges. It is one of the favorite settlement colonies of British Expats today and close to the Costa Tropical coastline.

Airport: Malaga Airport and Granada Airport
Lecrin can be reached from the Malaga airport as well as the Granada airport. The Malaga airport is served by flights from other parts of Spain as well as Europe and UK. If you are driving down then you need to take the Antequera route. Alternatively, you can take a bus or taxi to the Granada bus station and then take another bus or taxi to Lecrin Valley. Granada airport is served by more local flights from different parts of Spain.

    Places to See/Activities
The Lecrin Valley is more of an agricultural land and is far from the modern architectural delights and facilities. One of the best places to be in is the Padul village, which is incidentally the gateway to the Lecrin Valley. This is one of the few places in Andalucia, where tranquility is a way of life. You will find miles and miles of orchards and enjoy the local wine. There are several historical and religious monuments like the Casa Grande or the old palace of Padul, the street of Cavalry, cave houses, remains of the Roman kingdom including the old Roman road that leads to Los Limoneros, the laguna where you can fulfill your dream of bird watching and Cueva Blanca or the white cave. A 45 minute drive will take you to the slopes of Sierra Nevada, where you can ski through 45 pistes. It is also one of the best places in Costa Tropical for fishing. If you are lucky, you can catch a trout or a large wild carp and even American Black bass.

    Nightlife
There are some good restaurants in Lecrin that are open till 10pm and some bars that offer live traditional Spanish or Andalucian music.

    Weather
The weather of Lecrin is pleasantly warm and the average temperature is normally hovering around 20c just like in other parts of Costa Tropical.
