La Herradura: Costa Tropical’s modern village

La Herradura is a story of how modernization joined hands with the historical pasts to create one of the beautiful regions in entire Costa Tropical. La Herradura started its existence as a satellite town of Almunecar but has grown to become the second most urban towns of Costa Tropical but the good thing is that it has still not lost its old & worldly charms.

    La Herradura Facts

    Situated at 36° 44′ 18N Latitude/3° 34′ 60W Longitude
    Land Area: 35sqkm

    Airport: Granada Airport, and Malaga International Airport
    La Herradura is situated at a distance of around 80km from the Malaga Airport and 79km from the Granda Airport. The Costa Tropical town of La Herradura is situated at a distance of 60km from eastern Malaga. You can take shuttles or a taxi from the airport to the center of Granada or Malaga and take a bus or a taxi or even hire a car from there to La Herradura.

    Other Travel options
    You can drive down to this region of Costa Tropical or take a bus from the Granada or the Malaga bus station. The nearest port is also situated in Almeria-Malaga while the train stations will connect you from anywhere in Spain to Granada or Malaga.

    Places to See
    There is much to see and feel in this urban town of Andalucía. In spite of the urbanization, you will find the infinitely smooth touch of rural life. One of the prettiest views in this region of Costa Tropical is the view of the La Herradura Bay, which is considered as one of the most beautiful among all the Bays in Spain. The villages of La Herradura have their own charm and the whitewashed buildings built precariously on the small mountain slopes is every photographers dream. Some of the other places to see includes the dry river-bed of Rambla de Espinar, the Camino Real (Royal Way) from Almunecar and Paseo Marítimo de Andrés Segovia, which is a promenade that offers spectacular views.

    Beaches
    Some of the interesting Costa Tropical beaches situated in La Herradura include Playa Cabria, Playa El Pozuelo, Playa El Tesorillo, Playa Puerta del Mar and Playa Velilla. One of the most popular beaches here is the Playa Puerta del Mar as it is situated around the center of the town and is close to most of the facilities. The Playa San Cristóbal is also a popular beach that is lined with hotels, beach bars and restaurants and has a wide promenade for those who would love to take a walk in the breeze.

    Nightlife
    The nightlife in La Herradura is enlivened by live bands playing in small bars and restaurants. Most of the nightlife starts around 2200hrs and go on till sunrise.

    Weather
    The weather in this region of Andalucía is pleasant and the average temperature in the winters ranges between 14c and 20c. The winter and the rainy season commences from October through to March. The summer season starts around April through to September and the average temperature hovers between 24c and 26c.
