Granada: The jewel of architectural beauty

Before being a holiday destination, Granada is considered as a feast of the eyes for architectural buffs and students or architects who are planning to make a career out of building wonders in this world. One of the jewels in the crown of this Costa Tropical region is the standout architectural marvel famous as the Alhambra. The Alhambra has been built with a series of gardens and palaces that were built in the 14th century Nazari Dynasty. To this date, the Alhambra is considered one of the most creative and beautiful buildings of the world that includes the sprawling summer palace known as Generalife that is beautified with the gardens and the fountains.

    The history of Granada has been quite interesting and the first tribes to settle here were the Illbyr in the prehistoric period. Then came the Romans who were followed by the Muslims and finally the Christians came in around 1492. Today, Granada is the capital of the Granada province in Andalucía.

    Granada Facts

    Situated at 37º 11.3′ N and 3º 46.6′ W
    Airport: Granada Airport

    The Granada Airport is located in Vega del Genil, translated as the plains of the Genil River. The airport is 16km on the Westside of the city and is approximately 106km from the southern side of the city of Jaen. The airport handles national flights from Barcelona and Madrid, Spain. It now also handles international flights.

    Transport from the airport: You can travel by taxi or bus from the Granada airport to other parts of Andalucia or Costa Tropical. There are quite a few daily departures from the Granada city centre to the airport. It takes around 45 minutes to travel from the airport to the city center by bus and a one-way ticket will cost around 3 Euro. There are return buses that depart from Palacio de Congresos to the airport. The other option includes car rentals and private taxis like the ones operated by Autocares Gonzalez. The cost of taking a taxi is around 17 EUR from the airport to the city center, 25 EUR to Alhambra, and 63 EUR to the Sierra Nevada Ski resort.

    Nightlife: There is a lot of activity in terms of nightlife that takes place in this Costa Tropical region. There are restaurants that serve local cuisine as well as inter national cuisine. The bars and pubs are also great, start at around 10:30pm, and carry on through the night. Some even stretch until the very early hours of the morning.

    Weather: The weather is extremely pleasant and mild in most of Costa Tropical and the weather in Granada is marked by warm summers and cool winters. In the summers, there is a lot of sunshine from June to September and it rarley rains. The average summer temperature here can vary from 30c in the day to 8c in the night. The weather is colder in the winter and it rains here, which leads to a fall in the temperature to around 20c in the day and freezing in the night.
