Quéntar Moors and Christians Festival

When:Oct 2008 (annual)
Where:Quéntar
If you would like to see a battle reenactment of the Spanish expulsion of the Moors, amongst one-story white-washed buildings against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains, then be sure not to miss the first weekend of October in Quéntar.
During these two days, members of the cast reproduce some of the events of the Ferdinand and Isabella’s Reconquest in a series of three acts.

The first reenactment (on the Saturday) replays what results in victory for the Moors. The third and final act ends with the Christians proclaiming themselves victorious and converting the Islamic Moors by baptising them.

Quéntar is a small Andalusian village, hence the production will probably be a lot more personal than reenactments held in other grander Andalusian towns. It is well worth the visit to gain an insight into the traditional Spanish fiesta.
