Motril Town Hall to cut wages in an attempt to control debt
Sep 9th, 2008 | By Captain Chaos | Category: Costa Tropical NewsLocal Town Halls are facing increasing problems in paying their costs given the lack of income from building licences in the economic slowdown.
Motril Ayuntamiento has announced that it is to cut the wages of the local councillors by 4% in order to face the crisis. The idea is part of a package of measures designed to be approved at the next council meeting in the council which has the largest debt in Andalucía.
The P.P. Councillor for the Economy and Hacienda, José García Fuentes, said that another idea being considered was the reduction of the extra payments councillors get for attending planning and other meetings. He said that no increase in taxes for local residents was being considered.
Meanwhile the Town Hall in Manilva in Málaga province still owes the August wages to 560 workers. I.U. Mayor Antonia Muñoz said there was no money and the workforce inherited from the previous administration was ‘double what it should be’. The council is considering asking the Caja General de Granada for a credit to pay the wages.
