The consumption of methadone pills in which a drug addict shared among a group of friends on a night of partying has led to the tragedy on the Granada Coast. One man died and another of young man of 21 years is in a coma and another two attended with symptoms of poisoning which, fortunately, survived the lethal cocktail of alcohol mixed with opioid.
The Judicial Police of the Guardia Civil in Almunecar, and with the collaboration of agents from La Mamola know who gave out the drug, have arrested the drug addict, for three alleged offenses against public health, reckless homicide and one third of injuries.
The police are now awaiting final medical reports, the research progress, to identify positions in a future prosecution.
For the moment, and after collecting testimonies from young people who participated in the feast the night of the incident, officers in charge of the case came to a conclusion: none of them were aware of what they ate or drank when they were taking the pills . Only one of them seemed to know with certainty that it was methadone. But the researchers doubt that they were aware of the lethal substance that it can have on a person who is not a drug user. Especially if it is mixed with alcohol.
The incident happened on the 3rd of May, during the celebration of the Feast Day of the Cross, in the annexed casts belonging to the coastal town of Sorvilan. There, Miguel Gonzalez, a neighbor of 37 years, was with a friend, Federico Escobedo, 21, and two other young people celebrating the fiesta. But it was beyond the normal and ended badly. The group was drinking in a bar near the village, where José Ángel R. F., aged 37, approached them to sell drugs with Federico Escobedo. Apart from providing the pills to Federico, other group members had access to them.
During the night of partying, the group ingested the pills. Not one. Or two. But many. According to testimony collected from residents of the town, the young people took the pills not knowing of the substance it was. Although they knew that this was some kind of drugs, in the confusion of the party, dressed with alcohol, no one was really aware. According to the testimony of witnesses, ingested in excessive amounts as a challenge. Miguel was the one who took a handful of these drugs. The did Federico, in smaller amounts. The result was a bomb to their bodies. Something that should not be surprising if one considers that none of the group was a drug addict and had never tried methadone.
Miguel Gonzalez went to his house because he started to feel bad. And woke up the next day dead in his bed. Frederick, the youngest 21 years, was admitted in critical condition to the hospital in Santa Ana de Motril, where he remains in a very serious condition. The two other youths were also addressed, but were discharged by improving the state for having eaten fewer pills. Specifically, one of them was fortunate enough to be sick and therefore able to make less effect of the drug.
The case is in the hands of a court on the Coast and, according to confirmed sources from the Guardia Civil, the detainee is released with charges after paying bail imposed.
